Singapore approved casino gambling resorts back in 2005, and now, five years later, Singapore is closer than ever to housing casinos. The Genting Group will be opening phase one of their casino resort project on January 20th.
Three of the projects hotels, the Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, Festive Hotel, and Crockfords Tower and Hotel Michael will all open their doors to customers on that date. The next step will be adding the casino and the theme park.
Resorts World Sentosa will be opening Universal Studios Singapore, but they are still waiting for their licensing to be approved. Once the licensing is complete, there will be an announcement on when the casino and theme park will open.
That project is one half of the casino pie in Singapore. Las Vegas Sands is building the other casino, and they have re-started their project after financial troubles caused a stoppage.
Sands had an initial public offering in Asia late last year and raised over $3 billion. The funds that were raised have been used to re-start the Singapore project. Sands is also working on new projects in Macau.
International casino expansion has been high on the list of priorities for US-based gaming companies. Wynn Resorts and MGM Mirage are other companies that have joined Sands in the global expansion.
